The special day is nearly upon us - the day we celebrate our Queen, Queen Elizabeth II and her remarkable 70-year reign over Great Britain and the Commonwealth. Princess Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in February, 1952, when she was just 25 years old, after the death of her father, King George VI.

Her coronation was held more than a year later, on June 2 1953, due to the tradition of allowing a good amount of time to pass following the death of monarch, before people should celebrate a coronation.
