What's in a name?

Many people will already know that the most popular surname in England is Smith but what about Wales? Is it Williams, Evans, Thomas or Jones or something else entirely?

Well, the top 5 surnames in Wales as of March 2020 are:

1) Jones (170,633)

2) Davies (111,559)

3) Williams (110,404)

4) Evans (72,243)

5) Thomas (71,040)

Jones, Williams and Davies are also the 2nd, 3rd and 5th most popular surnames in Great Britain too!!

There are also some people who have Wales as their surname. One well known example is Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia fame! Even some members of the Royal Family use the surname Wales, most recently Prince William and Prince Harry. They used the name throughout school, university and during their respective military service. The reason for this is that their father Prince Charles, holds the title of Prince of Wales.

Why is Prince Charles known as the Prince of Wales? Well, I'll save that for another post!!
