Colwyn Bay 1940's Festival 2017

This weekend Colwyn Bay plays host to the popular 1940's Festival. There will be lots to see and do including vintage vehicles, 1940's memorabilia, a life-size replica of a Spitfire and lots of food (I don't think that it will be rationed)! Expect a skirmish or two with a re-enactment of the Allies doing battle with the enemy forces.

The festivities will be centred on Penrhyn Road at the bottom of which, can be found Penrhyn Buildings. An unremarkable structure which until recently, hid a covert past! During World War 2 the first floor of the building had been converted for use as a secret BBC studio which was to be used to broadcast to the country in the event of a German invasion. For years following the end of the war it lay undisturbed until the local Liberal Party rented the room as their office for the 1970 General Election. When they entered the room they found it as it was all those years previously, even the microphone was still hanging from the ceiling!

The festival runs from 20th - 21st May and admission is free.
